Project details
At the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, they wanted to have a better way of training their volunteers. The former way was a 4 hour video that volunteers had to watch but it was not very efficient.
My team was assigned to create interactive training modules with the use of Adobe Captivate. I was given the oportunity to come into the project halfway through to help finish it. My job was to follow the style that was already in place and Design module 4 which delt with the rules and policies of LLPA.
The Process
The Scripts
An important part of the project was to come up with scripts that were going to be used by voice actors, as the modules would have voiced information. During this time I was not part of the project, the scripts were given to me when they were completed to help me design the modules I was assigned to.
Wireframes and Style
Sketches and wireframes were created to guide the project. When I joined the project a style was already in place, modules one and two had already been created. My job was to design module four using the scripts and the images that were provided by the aquarium. I had access to a style guide and cutouts of people we would use on every module. Working with Adobe Captivate was challenging, as we were limited in what we could do, so the team had to get creative in our design choices to make it work.
User Testing
When it was time to test the final iteration of the modules, we had them tested with people of all age groups and found that it took users an average of 1.5 hours to go through all five modules. The product was considered a success as we managed to replace a 4-hour long video with a shorter interactive training experience for the volunteers.
